App Navigation

Phone and tablet layouts, sidebar, and bottom menu

The Beam app adapts its navigation layout based on the screen size of your device. This ensures an optimal experience whether you are using a phone, tablet, or desktop.

ℹ️
The app automatically switches between the phone layout and the tablet/desktop layout based on your screen size. You do not need to configure this manually.

Phone layout

On phones there is no persistent bottom menu. You stay on Home and navigate by tapping cards: Items, Orders, Stocktakes, Scan Page, UID Tracking, Recent Activity, Stock Health, and more. When no RFID reader is connected, a floating Scan button (FAB) appears so you can open the barcode scanner or Scan page quickly. The top bar offers search and the organization selector (tapping it opens the Settings drawer).

Tablet and Desktop Layout

On tablets and larger screens the app displays a sidebar navigation on the left side. The sidebar provides access to a broader set of sections:

  • Home Your dashboard overview.
  • Items Full item list with advanced filtering.
  • Orders View and manage all orders.
  • Stocktakes Create and manage Stock Take sessions.
  • Floorplan Visual floorplan view of your locations.
  • EPCs/UIDs Manage RFID tag identifiers.
  • Scan Open the RFID or barcode scanner.
  • Users Manage organization users (admin only).
  • Settings App and device settings.

The sidebar can be collapsed to give more screen space to the main content area. On desktop-sized screens, the sidebar is expanded by default.

Quick Actions from the Home Screen

Regardless of the layout, the home screen always offers quick action cards that let you jump into common tasks without navigating through menus. These include starting a scan, creating a new item, creating a new order, and starting a Stock Take.

💡
If you frequently use the app on both a phone and a tablet, the navigation will feel familiar on both devices: the same sections are available, just organized differently to fit the screen.
